The Maryland & Pennsylvania RR in 1924

Bob Sprague is building a three deck HO scale version of the Ma & Pa as it was on May 5, 1924. The design features many of his signature elements, including a foreshortened but accurate version of the entire mainline from Baltimore to York.

The Ma & Pa was famous for its modelgenic sharp curves, steep grades, compact equipment, short trains, quirky structures, and perpetually genteel poverty. These characteristics have enabled Bob to design in many signature scenes of the prototype at full-size noncompressed scales.

Track is handlaid, structures are all scratchbuilt, and control is Digitrax DCC. Operations have been initiated using the JMRI Operations Pro module. Many elements including distinctive MAPRR rolling stock, structure details, and control panels are being 3D printed.
